Explained: The Hindutva makeover of the Indian Council of Historical Research
The Indian Council of Historical Research is one of the top organisations responsible for shaping how the history of India is written.
It’s also plagued by nepotism, and dominated by members of an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
The RSS has forever maintained that the scholarship of Indian history has been dominated by historians with a left-leaning bent. A Hindutva makeover of ICHR is part of the effort to right the course of such scholarship.
Newslaundry’s Ayush Tiwari dug deep into this takeover of the ICHR by the Akhil Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Yojana – an organisation that wants the “reconstruction of Indian history” which has been “distorted by the imagination of the Dark Ages, the stubborn and arrogant mentions of Muslim historians”.
In this video, Ayush and Meghnad S break down the crux of this story. The report itself is behind the paywall, available only to our subscribers. To access it and other exclusive content, subscribe to Newslaundry today.
