Priyanka Chaturvedi is a Rajya Sabha MP from Maharashtra and deputy leader of the Shiv Sena. A former member of the Congress, she was suspended from the Rajya Sabha at the start of the winter session for alleged “unruly” behaviour during the monsoon session.
Soon after, Priyanka resigned in protest from her position as anchor on Sansad TV.
In this interview with Abhinandan Sekhri, Priyanka explains the events leading up to her suspension and what followed.
“There is a question of even selective targeting of some MPs because they want to settle scores or for whatever reason,” she says. “The number of days we have been suspended is unheard of in India’s parliamentary democracy.”
She also talks about the representation of women in Indian politics, why she left the Congress, and what the opposition needs to do to challenge the BJP on a national level.
