Congress’s Kanhaiya Kumar is the INDIA bloc candidate from North-East Delhi against BJP incumbent MP Manoj Tiwari. The former JNU student leader – who faced a defeat at the hands of BJP’s Giriraj Singh in Bihar’s Begusarai in the 2019 polls – is running a high-pitched campaign this time.

Newslaundry spoke to Kumar about his candidature, the work of the incumbent MP, local problems, talks about the feud within the party, and the infamous incident of 2016 at JNU. He also spoke about the agenda for his constituency and his experience of the previous polls.

Kumar said traffic jams, damaged roads, and underpasses, along with the issues of inflation and unemployment, have plagued the area. He accused the BJP MP of not doing “any development work in the area” over the past 10 years.

He also appealed to the people to vote for “the solution to their problems” and slammed Modi’s statement that the “Congress is over”.  “If the Congress is over, why is he mentioned in a large part of his every speech.”
