Santosh Singh, a senior journalist with Indian Express, has extensively reported on Bihar and its politics. In his new book The Jananayak Karpuri Thakur: voice of voiceless, Singh on the untouched aspects of the life and politics of Bihar’s first backward Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur.
In this conversation with Newslaundry, Singh throws light on Thakur’s appeal that was beyond the political boundaries of parties and ideologies. He says that after Thakur’s death, a CM of his opposing party named a village after him – a homage not received by any other CM of Bihar.
Singh discussed several anecdotes from Thakur’s life, including his inspiration behind introducing an old age pension scheme, the social movements that propelled him towards politics, and why he lived in an old hut till he breathed his last.
