The podcast where we discuss the news of the week.
This week, Newslaundry’s Abhinandan Sekhri, Raman Kirpal, Manisha Pande and Anand Vardhan discuss the controversy around Netflix’s new show IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency, and subscriber letters.
We’re also joined by our subscriber Kanwal Narula, who presents a special gift to the team of Newslaundry.
On the postponed release of Emergency, Raman says the BJP would have pushed it “if it was politically expedient”. Abhinandan adds, “Well, her profile does have a picture of her as Indira Gandhi – and that’s a BJP MP!”
The panel also discusses the portrayal of hijackers in IC 814 and the outrage about them being shown as Hindus. On the characterisation of journalists in the show, Manisha says, “The newsroom they show is pathetic. It is a caricature.”
In the second hour, the panel goes through subscriber emails. You can read them here.
