The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency, or HYDRAA, set up by Telangana’s Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has been on a demolition drive targeting hundreds of buildings in Hyderabad and leaving thousands homeless. 

While the government agency was initially praised for taking steps to mitigate the risk of natural disasters, many have now accused it of being politically motivated and arbitrary. Is the public body operating without checks and balances? Why has it unleashed a demolition drive on a massive scale?
