The letters were moved from the Prime Ministers Museum in 2008.
“I wish to see the correspondence between [Jawaharlal] Nehru and Edwina [Mountbatten]. It has been my wish for long,” says Rizwan Kadri, a Gujarat-based historian and member of the Prime Minister Museum and Library Society led by PM Narendra Modi. Kadri recently wrote to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for access to the Nehru-Edwina letters that were removed from the Prime Ministers Museum and Library Society in 2008.
In this interview with Newslaundry, Kadri speaks about former PM Jawaharlal Nehru’s legacy and his letters to Edwina and other personalities. He also asks, “What if [Sardar Vallabhbhai] Patel was our first PM?”
The historian refutes claims that the Edwina-Nehru correspondence could be used to run a smear campaign. “It’s wrong to assume. Once I see those papers, a different picture could emerge contrary to what others think or believe.”
