Tensions in the Middle East have escalated with the recent killing of Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Lebanese militant organisation Hezbollah, in an Israeli attack on Beirut on September 27. His death has triggered widespread unrest, including a retaliatory missile strike by Iran on Israel on October 1.

Protests against Nasrallah’s killing have also erupted globally, including across several states in India. At Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, the protest also saw women filling up the streets, expressing their solidarity and anger. But why has the death of a Lebanese militant leader resonated so deeply with some Indians?
