The papers pointed out that Trump’s campaign against illegal migration and his appeal among men worked in his favour.
Donald Trump has reclaimed the White House to become the 47th President of the United States, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, with projections showing his lead in key states, dominance in the Senate, and a clean sweep in more than 290 electoral seats – well above the majority mark of 270.
Harris has conceded defeat, saying, “This is not a time to throw up our hands, this is a time to roll up our sleeves.”
After a day like that, front pages across the world were, unsurprisingly, devoted to the return of the Trump era.
Indian Express’s front page headline in Delhi read: “Donald Triumph”. It featured a picture of Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump from his victory address in Florida. It quoted Trump, “We made history for a reason tonight.” A report on page 1 said that his historic comeback was on a wave of resentment, while another report pointed to Trump seeking India “pro” for American “quid”.
“Donald Trump makes historic comeback, wins second term,” declared the Hindu’s front page lead headline. The report – alongside an illustration of Trump hanging onto the arms of a man in a red, white, and blue suit, holding the US flag – stated that the Republicans reached majority in the Senate with at least 52 of 100 seats and the 78-year-old Trump is set to be the oldest President to assume office as his campaign against illegal migration found support.
The front page of Hindustan Times featured a picture of Trump pointing a finger at the camera, under the banner headline “Trump towers”. The lead report highlighted that Harris failed to “enthuse voters as gender barrier is still insurmountable in the land of the free”. Another report in the lead package was titled “Look who’s back! A Trump miracle”. It said, “Trump is the first person since Franklin Delano Roosevelt who has been major party’s president pick for three times in a row.”
The New Indian Express’s lead headline was “Don power again in US”. It featured a picture of Trump gesturing at supporters during his victory speech in Florida. It Trump had unleashed a “deeply personal – often misogynistic and racist” attack against Harris in the run-up to the polls. “The rhetoric, paired with an image of hypermasculinity, resonated with angry voters”. It also named Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, Ric Grenwell, and Kash Patel as “Trump’s A team”.
British daily newspaper The Guardian’s front page was titled “American Dread”, a play on the American dream that Trump has now promised “to rescue”. It featured a close-up portrait of the president-elect. The report said Elon Musk played an “outsized role” in Trump’s success.
The British tabloid The Sun’s front page was headlined “Don and dusted”. It pointed to Trump’s victory in key swing states.
“What have they done…again?” asked the front page of British tabloid Daily Mirror, with a picture of Trump pointing his finger at the camera. “Uncertainty and fear as world rocked by staggering US election result,” said the strap.
“He’s Don It Again,” was the front-page headline of American tabloid New York Post. Featuring a picture of Trump smiling, it said, “Trump pulls off comeback for the ages”. It highlighted that his return to power has come after “enduring countless criminal prosecutions and two assassination attempts”.
“Trump storms back,” read the New York Times front page headline. It said that the secret of his appeal was “simple”, he offered men “something that the Democrats never could”. “He is a walking avatar of a kind of masculinity that Democrats could never embrace”.
“Trump holds edge in key states,” read the page one headline of US daily The Wall Street Journal. It highlighted that Trump won swing North Carolina and is leading in other battlegrounds. It added that the GOP is set to take control of the Senate. Another front page report pointed to the election day rally has given lift to US stocks.
The Washington Post’s lead report on page one carried a banner headline: “Trump closes in”. The report said Harris lagged in the “last-hope blue wall states”.
“Les estats-unis choisissent Donald Trump,” read the front page headline of French news daily Le Monde. It pointed out that Trump secured decisive victories in key states.
The German newspaper Bild’s front page was headlined “Da isser wielder (there he is again)”. It accompanied a picture of Trump, gesturing thumps up.
“Trump the comeback king,” declared the front page of the South China Morning Post. It said, “World braces for uncertainty as Trump storms back to the White House”.
