The podcast where we discuss the news of the week.
This week, Newslaundry’s Abhinandan Sekhri and Raman Kirpal are joined by Supreme Court advocate Shahrukh Alam and senior journalist Sreenivasan Jain.
On Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud’s legacy and retirement, Shahrukh says, “He has brought the Bar down in some cases…such as Gyanvyapi, which went against his judgement in the Babri Masjid case.” But she adds that “there’s too much scrutiny on him and not enough on the system”. Abhinandan says, “It seems that he is too self conscious about how he is being perceived, which is in contrast to previous judges.”
As the conversation shifts to Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election, Sreenivasan says, “On the ground, we found a clear momentum in favour of Trump…We struggled to even get the bytes of Kamala Harris supporters in a ‘blue’ state like New York.” Raman says, “For Americans, Trump is a very good communicator, even if he comes across as a demagog.”
This and a lot more. Tune in!
