Arnab Goswami’s BJP connection in Assam
Arnab Goswami on Times Now today marvelled at the decimation of Congress in Assam and the emergence of the Bharatiya Janata Party. This was the end of dynasty and the emergence of a more rooted set of BJP leaders.
Here’s a minor detail: Arnab Goswami’s maternal uncle Siddhartha Bhattacharya was contesting the elections from Gauhati East and has won with a huge margin of almost 60,000 votes. Bhattacharya was appointed as the head of BJP’s Assam unit in 2014 before Sarbananda Sonowal took over in 2015. (Goswami’s father had also contested and lost on a BJP ticket back in 1998.)
Times Now’s Editor-in-Chief is hardly the first anchor or news person to have a political connection either through family, or as Goswami would say, through cozy Lutyens’s networking. (Hello, NDTV.) But considering he’s such a trendsetter when it comes to news, one would have hoped Goswami to issue a full disclosure while covering the election results. We didn’t see him do that. Did you?
