DUSU President Satender Awana says charges against him are exaggerated

Outgoing Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) president Satender Awana’s tenure was marred by series of controversies, not the least of which were intimidating Quint journalist to assaulting a Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) faculty member. Awana is a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which won Delhi University student elections last year third time in a row.

Awana is not a man who minces words: “Do you think that I am fool that if Hafiz Saeed comes to Indian border tomorrow and shouts Bharat Mata ki jai, I will give him certificate of nationalist?” he told us while talking about nationalism.

He also clarified ABVP’s relations with Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) by saying that while ABVP identifies with BJP ideologically, “we are not responsible for actions of BJP or [Narendra] Modiji or Rajnathji [Singh]. They came in existence in 1980 and we were formed in 1949.”
