Don’t understand WhatsApp snooping? Zee News is here to explain (with the help of movie memes)
WhatsApp has revealed that the messaging app was used to spy on at least two dozen Indian journalists and human rights activists earlier this year.
Newslaundry identified a few of the persons who said they were targeted by the malware called Pegasus, and developed by the Israeli NSO Group. Other media outlets too covered aspects of the story. But the coverage of Zee News stood out: DNA, the channel’s flagship show hosted by Sudhir Chaudhary, explained the breach with the help of – wait for it – movie memes. This one, from Sholay, is our favourite.
There was a reference to the iconic dialogue from Dewaar, starring Amitabh Bacchan and Shashi Kapoor. How could there not be!
The popular song “Itni Shakti Hame Dena Data” was recreated too, with Nisha Singh praying to the almighty to grant her — some data.
Totally filmy!
If you can muster the patience to watch the whole thing, be our guest.
