Indian media is dominated by men. Here are the facts

Did you know that women byline just about 27 percent of the front page articles in India’s top six English dailies? It’s far worse in Hindi; only 5 percent of the front page articles in the top seven newspapers are written by women. Overall, just about 6 percent of sports stories in English and Hindi newspapers are written by women.

It’s a similar story on TV. Women appear in just 15.7 percent of the flagship debate panels on the top seven English news channels. This number is 8.3 percent for Hindi news channels.

These are some of the troubling findings contained in the Gender Inequality In Indian Media report published by Newslaundry in partnership with UN Women last August.

In this video, we explain how India’s newsrooms continue to be dominated by men.
