'Extreme trauma due to sensationalisation': Rhea Chakraborty moves Supreme Court over 'unfair' media trial

Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court over media reports on actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death, alleging that the media is "unfairly holding trial" and has "already convicted" her.

Chakraborty, who has been accused by Rajput's family of being involved in his death, said in her affidavit: "The issue is blown out of proportion in media. Media channels are examining and cross-examining all the witnesses in the case. Petitioner has already been convicted by the media even before foul play in the death of Sushant Singh Rajput is established."

According to NDTV, Chakraborty said she feared becoming a "scapegoat of political agendas" and sought a transfer of the case from Bihar to Maharashtra, given that the Assembly election in Bihar is slated to take place in October.

Hindustan Times reports that the affidavit alleged that Chakraborty was the victim of a trial by media. "Extreme trauma and infringement of privacy of the rights of the petitioner is caused due to constant sensationalisation of this case. Media had convicted accused in 2G and Talwar case in a similar fashion where each and every accused was later on found innocent by the Courts," the affidavit said.

Chakraborty, who used to date Rajput, has been the centre of a vicious media storm for the past month. News reports suggested that she used "black magic" on the actor, and "pushed" him "to depression". In this race to the bottom, even as investigations are ongoing, Chakraborty has become the media's new enemy.
