Stopped at airport again, Aakar Patel moves contempt plea against CBI

A day after he was stopped the second time from flying out of the country, author and Amnesty International India chair Aakar Patel has moved a contempt application in a Delhi court on Friday, according to the Indian Express.

The Rouse Avenue District Court in Delhi had ordered the CBI to withdraw its look out circular – in an alleged case of violation of the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act – against Patel, due to which he was prevented from flying to the US from Bengaluru.

Patel’s application has sought action against the Investigating Officer of the CBI for non-compliance of the court order to withdraw the LOC.

Patel, a former journalist, was prevented from flying out of the country late on Thursday night, and took to social media to say he was stopped for the second time by immigration officials at the Bengaluru airport. “…have been stopped at immigration again. CBI has not taken me off their look out circular,” Patel tweeted, indicating that he will move court again.

Patel, who was invited by three universities in the US to deliver lectures on various subjects, including his book ‘Price of the Modi Years’, was first stopped from leaving Bengaluru on April 6.
