Explained: Why Modi's friends in the Gulf matter
The BJP found itself in hot water this week after its national spokesperson and the media head of its Delhi unit made certain comments against the Prophet. While there was pushback within India, the BJP only took notice when the comments received backlash from Gulf countries, spurring the party to suspend Nupur Sharma, expel Naveen Jindal, and call them "fringe elements".
