TV Newsance 237: #BoycottMaldives trends and Godi media finds a new ‘enemy’
This week started with Indian social media and the Godi media, both finding a new “enemy” to hate on as they campaigned against the Maldives.
It started with the dear leader’s visit to Lakshadweep, after which speculations began that it was a message to the Maldives. Then, following derogatory comments by three Maldivian ministers, the Indian social media erupted with anti-Maldivian sentiments.
Our usual suspects on TV news were no different. They dedicated a generous part of their primetime to insulting the Maldives. Republic Bharat’s Syed Suhail and Times Now Navbharat’s Sushant Sinha claimed that it is laughable that a nation “as small as Maldives” in size is trying to take on India.
Meanwhile, CNN-News18’s Rahul Shivshankar used all of his herculean vocabulary to ask the most basic questions. And with the crisis escalating, India Today and Times Now invited actors Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey to discuss the geopolitical situation.
