Tamil Nadu 2024: Why Coimbatore is crucial for BJP
Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore is witnessing a three-cornered fight in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls. The seat is a prestige battle for the BJP and signifies survival for the AIADMK, while the DMK is looking to take advantage of the split between the two parties.
The BJP has fielded its state president Annamalai for the seat, while the DMK’s candidate is former city mayor Ganapathy Rajakumar and the AIADMK’s candidate is G Ramachandran.
The AIADMK has a robust grassroots presence in the western belt, with its leader Edappadi Palaniswami hailing from the region. Meanwhile, both the BJP and the DMK are making advances in the constituency, with the former also counting on support from its allies – the Congress and the CPIM, which won the seat in the 2019 polls.
The News Minute’s Pooja Prasanna hit the constituency to bring you the ground realities.
