Last week, Aaj Tak made quite a news splash when it mistook a parody tweet and centred a debate show on it. On the very same day, Times of India’s advertorial segment — Times of Bangalore — seemed to have run an interview with someone who they believed was Hulk Hogan. This somehow escaped the attention of Twitter’s collective conscience till it was brought to notice on February 17.
The said interview has a Hulk Hogan-lookalike, Mr Wrestling, talking about his time in Chandigarh, its “beautiful, beautiful, beautiful people”, his favourite food — Butter Chicken, Chicken Korma and the amazing wrestling talent in India. Another report on TOI, in fact, has a story on the wrestling match in Chandigarh for which Mr Wrestling was in town. It has a picture of Mr Wrestling with the caption: ‘Hulk Hogan lookalike, Mr Wrestling brought cheer to the audiences’. TOI has pulled down the interview from its website admitting that it was factually incorrect. Interestingly, Zee News has put up a story on TOI’s faux pas.
Zee News of, you know, the ‘Narendrus’ fake Nostradamus story, which still sits pretty on its website! What do they say about those who live in glass houses?
