Vinay Kamat is set to take over from Sukumar Ranganathan as the new editor of Mint.
Set to join the team in February from Dubai’s Khaleej Times, where he is Editor, Kamat, a postgraduate from University of Bangalore, will bring 30 years of editorial experience to the organisation, a communication to colleagues by Shobhana Bhartia, chairperson and Hindustan Times Group editorial director, said, adding that Kamat “passionately believes in bringing back story-telling in new age journalism”.
It said that “under Sukumar’s leadership, Mint has established itself as a high quality product with superior coverage and strong readership base… in the short period of one decade”. Sukumar has moved to take over as editor-in-chief of Hindustan Times.
Kamat was earlier the Resident Editor for The Times of India in Bangalore, has worked with Business Today and helped launch DNA in Mumbai and Bangalore. He also has digital experience, having worked as the editor of indiatimes.com and economictimes.com.
